Moving Laptop Files to an external Hard Drive

How do I move all of my images and apps over to my external hard drive in mass. I can get files to transfer over the my hard drive by moving them individually but I can't get them to transfer when I select a folder of items. Is this a bug or is there a way to do it that im unaware of? Also if you dont reccomend that I do this nothing on my pc is irreplaceable and there's only 60gb of internal storage on my laptop including OS and I only want to use my internal storage for nesssacary apps and windows

Normal files and images can just be copied over to an harddrive/usb stick.

Entire programs or apps can be a bit tricky. Some might work fine if you copy them to another drive. Others have to be reinstalled on the other drive.
