Old Macbook pro

I have an old macbook pro still unibody, but a core2duo for a cpu serial # w8009ak97xj and i am trying to figure out the latest version of macos that i can put on it. I originally planned to use it as a linux machine, but i cant get wifi to work on linux on it

so i have an elcapitan installer usb and it refuses to install to it. like it tries and then it says it will not work

I had an issue once and I'm not sure if this is the same error you are receiving but there is an internal timer that after a certain date, it will no longer install. 

 

This can be circumvented by going through the Terminal and changing the date.

But I guess work your way backwards from there then.

The error in that video is the same as the error i get when i try to reinstall from usb

Go into the Utilities -> Terminal -> and type "date 0115124517" without the quotation marks, which resets the clock to a time El Capitan was supported. Restart the computer and try reinstalling OS X El Capitan again.

so dont set it to todays date because it was at jan 1st of 2000

No, because OS X El Capitan support ended in September of 2018 and anything outside of the dates it was introduced (September 2015) to September 2018 will not install.
