Hard lag for no reason out of nowhere

As I am writing this, I'm having an issue with my pc where every few seconds, it lags up so badly, it almost looks like it might bluescreen. The lag is so bad, that the whole screen freezes. Sometimes its just the screen that freezes and I can move the mouse. Others, the mouse stops moving too. Anyone know what might be happening?

All I ever do at this point is play Destiny 2.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's kinda sad... 

 

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600x

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2

MB: Asus PRIME x370 Pro

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x8gb) 3200 MHz

Storage: Toshiba P300 1TB, Samsung 970 EVO 250gb

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 ti GAMING

PSU: Corsair RMx 750w

Case: Corsair Crystal 460x

Lag can come from a number of places.  Ping issues would be one.  
 

if it’s not ping:

A non-comprehensive list of things to check:

-heat levels, both cpu and gpu if there is a discrete gpu

-where and in what apps is it happening: more than one?

-are there any other programs running?  Are they hogging processor time? 

 

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.
