miencraft server help.

i cannot find a correct tutorial on how to host a minecraft server.. i saw their video but they didnt really show how to host, they just threw a bunch of pc parts together and it worked.. can you guys either help me or point me into the right directions? i just wanna host modded minecraft for me and my friends. probably modspacks for like 15 max. i dont even have that much friends thats just an estimate. idk what i need at all.  please i just wanna play minecrfaft.

Download http://files.minecraftforge.net/ for your minecraft version

Follow these steps https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Setting_up_a_Minecraft_Forge_server

Install the mods

Done.

 

That's all provided you have port forwarded, which is done through your router.

hardware? i just use my spare $200 laptop? will it run 100+mods for like 8ppl no lag? i just dont wanna pay $50/monthly for a server when i already have my $200 chromebook lying around. which linux distro do i use? i saw they use something in linux's vid

You can do, I'm guessing that the $200 laptop isn't particularily great. You'd preferably want something with at least 8GB of RAM for a modded server.

If it's an ARM chromebook, it won't run minecraft. If it's an Intel Atom or Celeron Chromebook, you will barely be able to sustain a lag free vanilla server. Heavily modded is out of the question. You'll need something high clock speed and quad core. (3GHz+) and about 8-16GB of RAM.
