Pop up blocker for Android?

Mark Kaine

Specifically the ones that say "do you want us to fuck up your home screen, allow / deny"?

If it can block "privacy settings" pop ups as well would be nice, but not necessarily.

PS; I'm using adblock  which works well for ads doesn't have an option for pop ups tho, unfortunately.

Use firefox and get ublock origin addon. Can't get better than that for adblock on mobile.

Thing with adblock is that it's just not as good as it's limited by google letting stuff through. Firefox gets around this and thus their adblock addons are great. Firefox is only a little slower than chrome on android and it's worth it to me to not have any popup or adds.

This is what I have available, any of those block pop ups?

Funny thing the browser itself has a pop up blocker but it does exactly nothing, at least not block pop ups... 🚮

Id at least give this a try but whenever I try downloading "any" extensions on Firefox it does not work because it just doesn't load anything beyond the first few suggestions... (on 60mb connection, it doesn't matter, it just doesn't want to work)

Ps: chrome is by far the slowest, I only use Samsung, since many years, it's always fastest...

But maybe I just have to live with these annoying pop-ups then. :/

Easy workaround for that. Just google the extension and type firefox addon. Boom done there ya go.

Is this the built in samsung browser you are using?

No. Samsung internet beta from Playstore (its like the regular Samsung browser but faster and some more functions like PiP)

Adblockers have never worked well on the samsung browser hence why you are experiencing the issue. There really isn't anything better than firefox + ublock origin. Even the adblock browser lets adds through due to being payed to do so.

Ok... I want to block pop ups tho...

I don't get any ads...

I get the feeling firefox wouldn't block them either due to them being 'features' (and not ads) apparently there are tons of people who just love to plaster their home screens with useless crap. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just try firefox. I do not have any issues with popups or anything with the firefox and ublock combo. Popups are still a sort of ad that is what I'm referring to. Like I use some sketchy ass sites to watch some anime that I can't view otherwise and chrome would basically flood the page with crap that I can't even see the page anymore at certain points and on firefox with ublock it's just the video player and boom that is it nothing stupid going on.

Bonus question, how do I get rid of this?

'save to tabs' I do not want it, I do not want to see it ever, makes the browser by default unusable 😔

Right but I'm strictly speaking about

'do you want to add this (thing of unknown origin) to your home screen?'

And

Privacy pop-ups (which are mandated by EU so there's maybe no way around *that *)

But the add to home screen pop-ups are soooo annoying

Firefox doesn't have add to homescreen popups. They have an option to turn it on somewhere but it is off by default. The privacy stuff is mandatory cannot be avoided.

It's just a homepage? Go to settings and make it be whatever homepage you'd like? Like google or whatever you please? You also can click it away on the x that will appear after you browse for your first website.

At least it appears to be an option, that actually works (it's on by default tho which is a bit confusing)

I went to the offending site and

765936462_Screenshot_20201021-180830_OneUIHome.thumb.jpg.03d08991cc83aa8c974ed19c8998a518.jpg

But this only happened when I clicked on it in settings, so you do get a notification, but not a pop-up... 🤔

Even tho it's on by default

Screenshot_20201021-181045_Firefox.thumb.jpg.59b97401bfb17064762f03efc696a338.jpg

🤔🤔

Also I already had ublock installed, somehow! 😂

But the real bummer is Samsung internet doesn't seem to have that option at all, it says "block pop ups" but simply doesn't work...

Ok tried it, there's no 'x', seems to be a main feature of this browser and no option to disable...

It's everywhere in settings!  🤷🏼‍♀️

But, thanks, I learned some things, and I guess I just have to live with annoying add to screen pop ups as Samsung internet is way to convenient and my fastest option otherwise too.
