Memory not a advertised clockspeed

Okay so this is probably something simple that I am missing, but while I was OCing my 4770k, i noticed that my corsair vengence pro 2133mhz memory was actually at 1333mhz, can someone tell me why, and how to fix it?

I'm pretty sure you have to set the speed yourself since it is non standard. If it doesn't pass memtest at that speed then you should RMA it.

I believe you need to set it manually in the BIOS, and that's it.

All memory, including recommended 1600mhz is set to 1333mhz out of the box

set it to 1600mhz and then go up incrementally from there.
you should be able to hit 1866mhz. but 2133mhz might be a little more tricky.

Remember it is dependant on your CPU's IMC not so much the RAM itself.

This. Go into Bios and enable XMP Profile to run at rated speeds.

Yes enable XMP, if you cannot get it on the correct speed.

Then set the timinings and voltage by hand, in the Dram timing table menu in the bios.

As mentioned in the replies above you have to turn the speed up manually as the auto value is set to 1333. Just be careful with XMP profiles sometimes the voltage set is wrong.

Your RAM down-clocks when you OC. This happened to me, just set it back.

Clocking it all the way back and the CPU up may make the system more unstable.

I set it to 1600mhz with my cpu at 4.2ghz I dont se a point going higher on the memory in that case, havent tested the ram though.

Havent tried xmp yet, and I was using the bios, cpuz is actually showing it at 800mhz. Cpuid from aida64 is showing ddr3-1600 while the clock is 800mhz.

its because cpuz 1/2 it because its double data rate.

Well any normal classified memory recommended to run over 1600mhz at that speed will run at 1333mhz

you mean any ddr3 memory that is over 1600mhz. as far as i'm concerned ddr memory is 'normal' and that is only rated at 400mhz

can you tell me how to check the stability of my cpu in aida64? Like what should I look for as far as instabilities go?

tbh i have no idea. i only use ibt, but it will probably tell you with a message on the screen or freeze or stop if its unstable.

Oh well I ran it for 2 hours, while browsing the internet, it was fine no freezing, and temps were good, does that sound stable?
