i just want a decent 15+ drive capable server that can be a Minecraft server for under $200 us

What size drives? That r720 is 2.5 only, so most hdds won't work

the goal with this server is to be a nas and a Minecraft server and i want to use my spare ssd s

what form factor ssd?

Thats pretty hard to find. Might be able to get a hp dl 180 g6 here. I have one, performance is fine, but they are extremely loud. Could try to use a r510 aswell. R520 or r720xd is better, but there probably out of your budget.

It's a good price since it has the power supplies. You can get 2x Xeon E5-2660's for around $40-$50 and have 16c/32t to play with.

RAM is going to be expensive though. It may be $80-$100 for a 64GB DDR3 ECC kit. You'll also need drive trays and drives obviously

I have an R620 that I got off eBay that I filled with 10x 265GB SSDs from old laptops that my job was upgrading to 1TB SSDs. I want to say it was around $250 with CPUS and 32GB RAM.

Gaming Rig:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X Motherboard: ASRock X570 Taichi CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: 32GB Trident Z RGB 3200 GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 Founders Edition SSD: WD Black 1TB HDD: 2x striped WD Blue 2TB PSU: EVGA Supernova 850W Case: Be Quiet! Silent Base 802 Monitor: Acer XZ350CU 35" Ultrawide 144hz NIC: Intel X540-T2 10G

Laptop:

2013 Macbook Pro 15" - 8GB RAM, Intel i7, 256GB SSD

Server Infrastructure:

Dell EMC Poweredge R620: 128GB RAM, 2x Intel E5-2660v2, 4TB Storage - VMWare ESXi 6.5

Cisco UCS C240-M3S: 64GB RAM, 2x Intel 2620v2, 1TB Storage - VMWare ESXi - 6.5

Dell EMC Poweredge R520: 96GB RAM, 24TB Storage - Freenas 11.1

How many people do you plan on connecting to the server at one time? If it's less than, say, 10, the you really should just get a used dell optiplex or some other cheap tower. Cram as many ssd's in and call it a day.

Is there any way to split sata ports? I really want the capacity and not the speed so with my 18 drives 1 for the Minecraft server 2 for nas boot drives and 15 for gas capacity.

Yes, i think someone posted links in one of your other server topics.

thank you but i am looking for a built one because i gave up on the main 3d printed idea since it was to big to print

there really isn't a option for that budget and low noise.

What drives are you getting? WHy so many drives, id get fewer bigger ones, and that will make it much easier to get parts for

i just already have the drives that is why i want them to be used other than sitting in a box

how many tb do you need?

Id really try to sell the drives and get a better build if you can.

Otherwise, a used server is your best bet here, but not quiet.

Or get a old pc + sas hba, and some sort of custom drive mounts.

i only need 2 tb and all the drives are 256 gb so lets say i go for a setup where i can lose 5 drives that is still 2.5 tb of storage

are those ssds?

Just sell those ssds, you can probably get 30-40 bucks a pop for em, then buy some 2tb hdds and you got a quiet low power nas.

What budget would you recommend for a nas / Minecraft server because if i sell those drives i probably would probably put the rest of that money towards a dirt bike

If you want a basic one, just get a used optiplex for like 200 bucks, and then add some hdds, so maybe like 400 bucks, a bit more if you want new.
