What was so bad about the nvidia gpu launches?

DylNicolax
Go to solution Solved by DG House,

the cards a ok as far as we know

the probleme is that scalpers/bots bought huge amount of cards from the online shops and resell them for much more on ebay

the same is with the PS5 pre oder list

I've been living under a rock. I don't know what's going on. I haven't watched many videos and when I tried to look up why the rtx launch was so bad I didn't really get any answers. Also, I don't even know if it was the launch that was bad or the cards themselves that were bad.

Basically a combination of the two. Preorder shenanigans with scalpers and stock shortages. Then some cards from partners had issues with the choice of capacitors causing programs and games to crash to desktop.

Yea the scalpers were the main event. For the few souls who got cards at MSRP, they were treated to an after party of crashes.

this have been debunked as not being the reason by now, i think

not aware of the official statement, but personally just thinks they went too aggressive on the clocks this time around

but yes, the crashing of certain cards, and lack of stock (suspected low production volume) and scalpers, it's a real shit show this time around

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

.

cards are ok. clocks out of the box were too aggressive as 8nm process really sucks (it'll sting when next gen comes out). Nothing defective or anything unlike the 20 series launch.

I don't mind the inventory as much as at the end of the day it's functional and just a consumer product. last launch was worse imho.

I'm really leaning toward just buying a tuf 3080 for 699 whenever it's in stock to bridge til something with better efficiency, not a good feeling.
