Hi guys! Getting into pc but my motherboard is a H81m-plus and sort of confused, Does this board support gen 4 i7? or does it need a bios update.

It may need a BIOS update for some of the later 4th gen i7's.

There are two sets of 4th gen CPU:
- Haswell (which the i7's would be 4770 and 4770K)

- Devil's Canyon (which the i7's would be 4790 and 4790K).

4770(K): works on any BIOS of the H81.

4790(K): may require a BIOS update, depends on the version it's on now.

This article shows how to update the BIOS.

In short, you need a working CPU on the board and a flash drive. Just place the BIOS files on the flash drive and you can update it like that.

It may not be needed, but it depends on the BIOS on the board.

You probably don't need to update indeed, according to the CPU support list, you need BIOS version 2001 or newer for i7 4790K support: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H81MPLUS/HelpDesk_CPU/
