I have a AMD Epyc 7401p and a azrock and super micro motherboard. Both of them wont post. I made sure to use 14lb/in of mounting pressure. I am test booting on top of the motherboard box and have tried supported ram by the motherboard and have tried g.skill ripjaws ram as well. Any recomendations?

Arent server boards capable of beeping for debug? Does it sound?

Using registered memory? Have a graphics card installed? All power sockets used?

yes exept for that the motherboard has ig so plugged into mb

I'm not aware of any Eypc CPUs having an iGPU. When they dont, any display output (I dont understand why the board would have one if it does) on the mb wont work.

While Epyc does not, it isn't uncommon for server motherboards to include iGPU's.

Then maybe the CPU's DOA, without debug features it's really hard to tell.

Both have ASPEED AST2500 management (inc. graphics) chips built into the motherboard. No dedicated GPU is required.

 

One thing I have to ask... how long did you wait for a post? My server, and server equipment in general, can have really long POST times, over 3 minutes in some cases. Give it a good 10-15 minutes, for first post, before ruling it broken.

That motherboard has a built in post code readout. What do the post codes say when you start it up?

The readout for the asrock one was 78 but after switching cpu it cycled trough a lot of them then started counting down to reboot.

@Sam F Both also have IPMI, plug that port in to your network and find the IP of it from your DHCP/modem table and connect to it with your web browser. In there you should get a more detailed error reason and diagnostic.
