Yesterday my 9 yr old AMD radeon 6790 HD shorted its capacitors and i'm in due for upgrading anyways but im thinking if my current build if enough and only replace the gpu. My build is

Intel i5-3570

Gigabyte GA H61M

2x G skillz Ripjaws 4gb ddr3 2400mhz

120gb Kingston SSD

1TB seagate HDD

Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED Turbo

FSP Raider RA 650W 80+ Silver

I'm planning to wait for rtx 3080, do i need to upgrade my psu? And will i get heavy bottleneck on cpu side? What would be highest gpu that I can use without any bottleneck on my pc?

Thank you :)

you will be EXTREMELY bottlenecked CPU side. Like... stutter heavy unplayable bottlenecked.

How about the psu? If i plan to get amd 3700xt and b570 mobo with 16gb 3200mhz ram paired with rtx 3080

that PSU would definitely fail under load with a 3080. Look at getting a good quality PSU 750w or so from the list linked in my signature.

So it only points out to upgrade the whole system 😣

even a 3700x is a considerable bottleneck to the 3080 depending on resolution, i'd suggest a completely new system with a 5600x +3080

or just upgrade to a 3060 ti and ignore the bottlenecks,

ur current cpu will probably perform similarly with a 3060 ti vs a 3080.

For games i do play old triple a games like ffxv, mtg solid v, tomb raider, and do some cad and video editing with intention of letting my brother use this on his architect course. So basically a family computer with slight to moderate professional workload

Do not know what are you playing right now and what are your demands or whats your budget but my suggestion is go for RX 5500xt or max 5600xt thats from AMD GPUs. If you want Intel GPU go for 2060 RTX ot GTX 1070 thats my suggestion, your PSU is fine for this GPU-s. and your CPU will not botleneck. If you want 3080 GPU you will need change everything Motherboard CPU Ram and Power Supply

If i go 2080super, do i still get cpu and psu bottleneck?

PSU no CPU yes at 1080p. I'm sorry but I just gotta say this to all the folks out here recommending upgrades that aren't even out yet - STOP IT. Dude wants to upgrade his PC now cuz he has no working computer  Well I guess he said he could wait nevermind then. But still stop recommending 3060s and Ryzen 5000 CPUs they're not even out yet and we have 0 benchmarks. Okay now that that's out of the way if you want an immidiate upgrade go with something like a 2070 or RX 5700. If you decide to go the 3080 route you might as well wait for the 5000 CPUs to release cuz you're going to be waiting for a 3080 until Q1 2021 anyways.

Ada is worse than Ampere which is worse than Fermi, change my mind.

Exactly, those were not even out yet. So the max is 2070? and still the cpu will bottleneck on 1440p? Im using common 1440p @60hz monitor now tho I dont experience my cpu dipping below min clock spd

I don't think you understand what a CPU Bottleneck means. It doesn't mean your CPU losing frequency or clock speed it means your CPU isn't fast enough to push enough frames to your GPU so your GPU isn't fully utilized and it's basically sitting on extra performance that's not being used. At 1440p the results will be better as you'll be more GPU dependent but you're still running a relatively old chip so I'm guessing you will endure some bottlenecks there too. There is no "max" you can buy whatever GPU you want but personally I wouldn't buy anything above a 2070 Super for this CPU unless you're planning on doing a full system upgrade in the upcoming months and using the same GPU in the new build.

i'd say right now with pricing as it is. 2080's are good value used, and Ryzen is great for Bang to buck gaming.

at 1440p on an i9 when playing COD MW or Warzone (which is mostly what I play) there is about 5 FPS between my 2080 and a friends borrowed 3080.

Games are limited by engines as much as your hardware.

ASUS Z490 Gaming Socket 1200

i9-10850K @ 5.8Ghz

Corsair H150i Platinum

128GB Corsair Vengeance RGB 3600Mhz

Not as much - more. Optimization of games especially as of late has been complete utter garbage. Especially ports and cross platform games. It's shameful that excellent games like Doom that both look gorgeous and are optimized to use system resources as well as possible exist in the same universe with the abomination that is COD. Even fortnite has somehow managed to drop something like 50% in FPS in the past year. Really..Fortnite?!

Exactly I was so surprised, my system is pretty high end and there was no chance I was going to bottleneck a 20 Thread Processor.

However after unboxing a beautiful 3080 FE I was underwhelmed with the performance in most games. The 2080 series floors most games at 1440p.

If your gaming at 4K then probably a different story however 1440P (Having tried 4K) is my sweet spot.

It's likely that the 8nm yields aren't what nvidia wants anyway, we'll probably see something by next year.

if I had a 2080 series card i'd personally be waiting for higher VRAM cards or the TI's which look like they are set to drop towards the end of 2020 / Early 2021.
