2060 super buzzing sound depending on workload

Hi,

been active in the Folding Month and now, on some work units I get a very annoying buzzing sound from my MSI 2060super Gaming X. Dropping the Powerlimit/coreclock to a minimum stops it more or less, but that's not a solution. After a while, it stops. Anybody has an idea what's going on or what to do to stop it?

If it varies with workload it might be coil whine. There are also other possibilities such as fan issues. 

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

There are ways to gain more information.  One is to stop each fan in turn with a finger to see if it is a fan.  Another is to create some sort of ear horn or field serviceable stethascope to further narrow down what part of the card the sound is eminating from.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

It is a VERY common thing in modern hardware in general and you'll be lucky if you find a GPU without it.

yeah, but it goes through my sounddampend sb 601 and through my headphones, which is very annoying. oh well...

it's not the fans, but definitely on the gpu. stopped them, issue persists. Only solution is dropping the cor clock really far

Have the same issue (coilwhine) on certain workunits, although not that loud (1660 Ti).

On other work units, my PSU starts making a certain lightly audible ticking sound that correlates with the GPU usage% curve of Afterburner.

 

No way around it I guess...

Wait, are you saying your headphones pick up the sound (like it's electrical interference), or is it loud enough that it gets through the sound dampening?
