Need Advice on Buying a Laptop!!

So recently, I was thinking about getting into gaming and currently i have the Macbook Air 2015 model with Core i5 5250U and 8GB RAM. 

I use my laptop for normal browsing and and loading heavy 2000 page long pdfs ( Medical textbooks). I wish to game as well!

 

I have two options on hand:

1) Buy a new laptop with a budget of  $1000 ( I need a laptop by Christmas). 

2) My friend was selling his 3 year old MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro - i7 7700HQ GTX1060 6Gb and 16GB ram with 256gb M.2 and 1TB HDD. ( although i dont know how much to ask him for the laptop)

Its $1000 maximum.. also, a fellow miser here.. so if I buy my friends laptop then i could wait until a year or two to buy the mobile versions of the 3000 series GPUs right?

Could you just keep the Mac for portable use and get a desktop for home?
