new cpu

i am planning to get a i5 10600 non k with a b460 board and 16gb of ram (i know it will be lock at 2666mhz) for gaming 

will it be good for gaming? planning to get an RTX 3070 with it going to play on 1440p 

and yes i am aware of zen 3 launch on friday but i need a pc now and until the new 5600 will arrive where i live it will take more then 3 months

A ryzen 5 3600 with some DDR4 3600 in a B450 motherboard would cost a lot less and deliver the same gaming experience, and you could upgrade to next gen Ryzen in the future, if you wanted.

 

The 2666MHz cap on current Intel CPUs appears to be a pretty big deal this generation, in terms of performance.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

I'd say you'd be better off getting a 3600 and a cheap, decent B550 board, like a B550M PRO-VDH.

the ryzen 3600 cost the same as the i5 10600 where i live 

and as i understand the singe core performance of the i5 is much batter is looks like a batter option for gaming 

the real question is if the i5 will bottleneck the 3070?

Agreed on this. The only CPU that's worthwhile for gaming is the 10600K with a Z470 board, but that's going to be more expensive. Locked i5s make no sense for gaming.

Either go Z490 motherboard and 10600K (more expensive), or go Ryzen 3600 (cheaper, similar performance to 10600 + b460). Those are the worthwhile options.

The single core performance of a locked i5 is not better, because fast RAM matters a lot to these new generation platforms. And Intel doesn't let you run RAM over 2666MHz unless you buy an overclocking (Z490) board. Those are quite a bit more expensive.

the real question is if the i5 will bottleneck the 3070?

The i5 wins in gaming on expensive motherboards, but on the cheap it suffers. If you can get a B450 or B550 motherboard for cheaper than the B460 options you're looking at, and some DDR4 3200 or 3600, consider that instead.

I'd choose the AMD any day at the same price yes.

 

Make sure to grab 3200MHz or 3600Mhz RAM (3200 should be cheap, 3600 might not) which adds a bit of performance.

you can also get a b450 to save a few bucks if you dont need pcie 4.0 (spoiler: most people dont). asus is refreshing their b450 lineup which looks promising but theres a bunch of mobos in the ~100 dollar range that would be more than adequate for gaming purposes
