HDD recognized, no space?

Hello, I just finished building my PC and installing windows 8.1.

 

One problem I'm having is my HDD ( 1tb seagate barracuda )  isn't recognized in "my computer".

 

 

 

Specs:  4670k, z87 gryphon, seasonic 760watt platinum, corsair 350d, samsung 840 evo 250gb

Wait, so it comes up as 3GB in everything??? Something is messed up there. Maybe right click it and see if you can initialize it.

When I right click it, there's no option to initalize it it's greyed out

Uh, I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I must admit that I'm not as versed

in Windows as I used to be (primarily used Linux for the past few years, although

my current machine is actually Win).

Anyway, as tmc has said, the fact that the drive is showing up as 3.86 GB is really

rather strange. Do you have the possibility to try it out on another machine, or

at least on another controller? Or do you have another drive you could pop into

this machine to try out?

Also, make sure that drive settings are correct in the BIOS, although I'm not

really familiar with all the possibilities on that end and how they interact

with Windows, might have to google a bit on that one.

What do you get when you do right click -> properties on the field to the left

(the "Disk 1" button with the red error thingie on it)? Are there any driver

issues reported?

Other than that I really don't know too much anymore about Windows and its

disk management tools (enough to maintain it and do basic troubleshooting, but

not much more). I shall therefore summon @Vitalius, maybe he knows something

more useful.
