My issues started a few days ago. I booted up gta v and the performance was horribly laggy and was pretty much unplayable. This was confusing to me because I've been playing it fine with the same settings for almost a month without any sort of issue. And other games have similar problems, even games that really aren't intensive are starting to suffer every now and then. I looked at my cpu and gpu usage and noticed that they were both fluctuating rapidly from the 90% region to 0%. Normally, they would stay at a constant 85%-100% without any drops. I've pretty much tried everything short of a factory reset at this point. I really don't understand how this is happening all of a sudden where I had no issues whatsoever before. I'd really appreciate any kind of help because this has been really annoying to try and figure out on my own. I have an Asus Nitro 5 and these are the specs:

Intel Core i5-10300H 2.50GHz

8gb RAM

GTX 1650

Check temperatures and make sure the laptop isn't throttling a lot. Additionally make sure you play games with the laptop plugged in to wall power, otherwise performance will drop significantly.

The CPU stays at around 85-90c and the gpu doesn't seem to run as hot as it would and would stay at 70c now. Before, they would both be at around 90c. And I always play plugged into wall power

I have your exact oposite of that laptop! The R5 4600H and 1650 version. Go into Nitrosense (Aka hit that weird N button near the numpad) and look what your AC wall power setting is. If its in power saving mode turn it to performance and that should fix it

So I do have it on high performance, and just to see what would happen, I switched to high performance on the battery tab and went back to ac.I've been testing what would work on OW because it boots pretty fast and had significant performance issue with everything going on. And surprisingly enough, it's a lot better. I don't know if it's a coincidence or if maybe for some reason it's been going off of battery power while I play, but I'll try restarting the game and see what happens

Huh, Maybe your having the issue I had with my old laptop where the clocks would drop to something like 300 Mhz for no reason on wall power and the only way to fix it was restarting? Im not entirely sure. Monitor your clocks and remember that GTA V (GTAO in my case) isnt the most optimized thing in the world

Okay, so that didn't help as I thought it did. CPU usage was at 40% while the gpu went from 100 to 0 rapidly. Temps for either didn't reach anywhere close to overheating. The problem with the gta thing was that I've been able to play it just fine before and now it's unplayable, same for some other games like OW now. I've restarted countless times, downloaded both new gtx drivers and windows update, I feel like it must be an issue with the cpu at this point since it never gets past 50% usage when it would be at a steady 90% while gaming. I just don't know what the problem would be

Well whats your power consumption like? Have you messed around with your TDP or boost on the CPU? (Not sure because XTU and Ryzen Adj are completely different things) WIth laptops it comes down to performance modes, power consumption and clocks (Although as you stated earlier your CPU gets insanely toasty, For reference my 4600H rarely peaks at 81C and stays at 60-70 so maybe look if your CPU is downclocking?)

While the 90c is a lot warmer than I'd like, the most I can do is to prop it up on my desk to make sure the airflow is still going. All of my power settings should be max performance but I'm still getting the issue. My cpu may be downclocking but I'm not exactly sure what to do about that
