hey so i have a 6800k in an msi sli plus x99 mobo.

i want to put in a xeon for increased productivity since they all go above the 6950x's 10 cores. And i was wondering what the best one would be?

i was looking at a 2690v4 because it has 4 more cores than a 6950x and the max clock is still the same.

in case your wondering about mobo cpu compatibility i already checked and most of them work... the only thing i have to worry about is power draw.

if you want to go all out, here's the list of compatible CPUs

all the way up to 22 cores if you really need. Not sure how important single threaded is to you though.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I need?

That cpu costs like 400$. It's worth getting it over the 6950X since the 6950X goes for 100-200$ more, but do keep in mind that Xeon's are not overclockable. But realistically speaking you might just be better off getting something else.

Generally xeons have lower power consumption, they're designed to run in thermally limited servers.

How much would you be paying for this CPU? I know you said not to mention ryzen but per-core speeds on modern platforms are better enough to outpace even much higher-core-count chips. Most benchmarks I'm seeing put the 2690v4 on par with the 3700X and the 2699v4 well behind the 3900X.
