Looking for a PSU recommendation

Delicieuxz

My brother's PC has, for a while, had an issue where it shuts-down by itself at various times while gaming. He's tried troubleshooting things and he thinks the Antec HCP-750 PSU might be defective and is looking to replace it.

He's thinking about getting this PSU: https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-gp-p750gm-750w/p/N82E16817233029

He has a 4690k CPU and has been considering getting an RTX 3070 or 3060 card at some point. Is that PSU a good choice, and what else should he consider? He lives in central Europe, so availability might differ from in North America.

BTW, why does that Gigabyte GP-P750GM PSU have a 5-year manufacturer's warranty while this GP-G750H one has a 1-year manufacturer's warranty?: https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_1938&item_id=129551

They have the same general features, and they cost similarly. A 1-year warranty basically says it's not expected to last 5 years.

At about the same price I would recommend getting either the MasterWatt 750 from Cooler Master if you prefer that brand or go with something like the Corsair RM750x.

SilentiumPC Supremo FM2 750W is tier A in PSU tier list, and costs probably less.

What about those is better than the Gigabyte GP-P750GM?

Difficult to tell, can't find the model from tierlist. Have to read some reviews/info first.

Not much reviews out there.

Internal layout, choice of components etc.

Personally I would go with the Corsair RM750x if I wanted to buy in that price range, just because I have used them in the past and had good experiences with it. I have built systems with the sort of entry level GigaByte PSUs. They are decent enough for non OC and basic workloads. Also the fan is a bit louder than on other units. Other brands I would recommend are Be-Quiet (Dark Power or Straight Power), Silverstone, Enermax (Platimax),, FSP (Fortron Source) Seasonic Focus+ and Antec (Gold / Platinum).

Gigabyte GP-P750GM - 5-year warranty, gold-rated

MasterWatt 750 - 1-year warranty, bronze-rated

Corsair RM750x - 10-year warranty, gold-rated

SilentiumPC Supremo FM2 750W - 5-year warranty, gold-rated

The gold-rated ones all have solid warranties. A 1-year warranty doesn't inspire a lot of confidence from me, lol.

My brother says he's on his way to get the Gigabyte GP-P750GM. I hope it works out for him.
