Cant run 4000mhz ram?

So it looks like this kit uses Hynix / Micron memory ICs.

XMP timings for 4000 MHz is 19-21-21-42 1.35V.

Not the best kit out there...but not the worst either...

 

Have you tried enabling XMP, so the proper timings are set, BUT then manually change the memory multiplier / ratio to DDR4-3400 or 3600?

I have a 9900k with an Aorus Masters mobo with 4 sticks of hyperX predator and whenever I try anything like manually setting the timing etc, my computer just wont boot. and XMP 1 only sets the speed to 3200. Any help would be appreciated as I already resetted BIOS like 5 times already.

The 9900K's max spec for RAM is DDR4-2666. Anything more than that is technically overclocking, and may be achieved by tuning voltage/winning the silicon lottery. I'd recommend you try increasing your RAM's voltage incrementally and see if you can reach max speeds.

Your Ram May just not be high enough quality, the cpu's IMC may not be good enough, Voltages etc. Id honestly just stick with XMP and tinker from there, going from 3200 mhz ram to 4000 Honestly is not going to work well.

Your i9-9900K's Integrated Memory Controller (IMC) is probably not able to run DDR4-4000 MHz stable.

With that aggressive of a frequency, you are not guaranteed that will work.

Have you tried a couple multipliers down first?

E.g. DDR4-3600, 3800, 3866, etc?

it seems i cant really get anything to run above 3200. Sorry I am still fairly new to this so correct me if im wrong, I specifically chose this motherboard because it supports up to 4133mhz and this is a 9900k mobo. So my question is why would they say it can run at that speed if the CPU cant handle it?

The motherboard can handle it.

It's your CPU that cannot.

 

Intel only guarantees the i9-9900K up to DDR4-2666.

Anything above that will require overclocking the CPU's IMC -- with overclocking anything, nothing is guaranteed .... or your mileage may vary.

The 10th Gen Intel CPUs seems to be able to handle higher DDR4 RAM frequencies better (e.g. 4000MHz+).

While 7th / 8th / 9th Gen Intel averages around DDR4-3400 ~ DDR4-3800.

Thanks for your detailed reply! So in short I got unlucky and got a crappy 9900k. To be honest it should have been a red flag when the guy at Canada Computers asked me if I wanted to buy an openbox 9900k for 10% off.

Better yet, what is the model number of the kit?

 

I'm suspecting a DDR4-4000 kit, but LOW GRADE DDR4-4000 kit.

i9-9900K should be able to to do DDR4-3200 ~ DDR4-3600 range pretty easily.

let me try that again, wish me luck! Also yes I did change the memory multiplier to 3600 after enabling XMP

he should be able to get 4k on a 9900k with the right settings my 8086k can do it no sweat.

Oh... I totally didn't catch he was running FOUR sticks, two kits.

 

I'm only able to get DDR4-3600 stable with my i7-8086K.

Then again, I'm like OP, running 4x stick of memory for a total of 32GB.

That, and they are DDR4-3000 CL14 kits re-used from my i7-6800K / X99 set-up.

Oh... I totally didn't catch he was running FOUR sticks, two kits.

 

I'm only able to get DDR4-3600 stable with my i7-8086K.

Then again, I'm like OP, running 4x stick of memory for a total of 32GB.

That, and they are DDR4-3000 CL14 kits re-used from my i7-6800K / X99 set-up.

yea but then again, DDR4 came along way. New kits do much better especially f.e. the 
"F4-4000C15Q-32GVK" or "F4-4000C15Q-32GTZR" G.SKILL kits. Memory Chips got alot better, PCB revisions got much better and i doubt that the IMC is holding anything back below DDR4-4400.

 

Usually the board makes a much bigger difference with RAM OC than you would think. My Asus Maximus Formula f.e. is actually also bad for RAM OC, Overclocking boards are much better (with only 2dimm slots) for obvious reasons... but overall you can guess which kit would run on your board if you f.e. check forums or G.Skills QVL and not the QVL of your Motherboard, because G.Skill advertises their QVL with the actual speed of the ramkit, not only if its working or not at all.

 

And sad but true, Gigabyte Boards are very rarely on any of these lists. Either they dont get tested as often, or they just do not pass the tests.
