Dell T3600 Graphics

Right now my PC is a dell t3600 with a 420w power supply and a nvidia quadro 600. I really want to upgrade my graphics but i dont want to have to buy another quadro. Would i be able to install a higher end GTX card (680-780 range) while adding a secondary power supply outside of the case juat for the graphics or will there be to many driver and internal power issues because it is a dell pc? Also is it possible to just replace the dell power supply or did dell decide to wire there supplys differently than everyone else so only dell validated components can be used?

Get a higher output PSU for a 770 or 780. I would go 600W minimum, like for example the Corsair CX600. It is easily possible to replace the PSU.

The Dell T3600 uses proprietary size power supply. You cannot just replace it. @8uhbbhu8 You can use another PSU as a supplementary PSU, but you'll need to short the green (power on) and black (earth) cables to turn it on. It'll won't look nice but it'll do the trick.

 

Drivers won't be a problem. However whether the computer will allow it to boot from the graphics card is another story - I'm not sure if it will allow it to. It should be fine seeing as it's just a PCIe slot though.

I know that the power supply is proprietary size but is there anything that should hold me back from just buying another supply and having it on the outside of the case and then plugging everythin into it? Ive heard that dell does some wierd stuff with there power delivery systems so only dell supplys can be used or else ot will fry your system or just wont work.
