No. Buy the GPU first, test it on your system.

And if it's not performing as you expected, then you buy a new one.

Yes it will support 3080.

There is one video from Hardware Cannucks covering your exact situation:

(Spoiler: At 4K it makes practically no difference if you run a 7700K or something newer.)

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

the 7700k is still a decent chip in gaming especially with an overclock and it may struggle a bit if the game can use more than 8 threads, but it shouldn't be bad and  at 4k it should be fine for the most part.

Well i play call of duty but i run it at 1440p will it make difference? I never run anything at 4k since i only have 1070 so my fps drop hard. So im used to 1440p so when i get my 3080 ill probably run at 1440p rather than 4k

when you get the 3080, just run it at 4k. it will be a better experience.

Thanks for all the help. I also looked at the video that was sent to me and even at 4k with my 7700k call of duty seem to be averaging at close to 100fps which is really good. Plus he seemed to be running at give or take 10 more fps with a i9 10900k. So i think ill save my money its not worth the extra 10 to maybe 20fps. Ill most likely just OC my 7700k
