Network Discovery turns itself off

For some odd reason Network Discovery in Windows 10 keeps turning itself off instantly after being turned to on.

 

Anyone know of any fixes for this?

Just Windows 10 being Windows 10. I swear to god it turns password protected sharing on after every major update.

literally just went through this PITA about 2 weeks ago on my NAS

 

if it's the same symptoms 

- network discovery is off

- all network sharing settings public and private are greyed out

- when you turn on network discovery apply and then reopen the settings window it is turned off again

 

how I fixed it:

1 - uninstalled the latest 1909 windows update

2 - jumped into windows regedit, find: "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache" changed the parameter to "1" 

3 - restart, and turn on network discovery, restart and everything stayed on
