SSD upgrade question

Kappie

So, my old boy MSI GT72S 17,3 has this SDD in it:

  • 128GB SSD PCI-e Gen3 NVMe

Its usally used to play either WoW or Overwatch.

But with the new wow expansion underway, they warn against using mechanical discs. So you should use an SSD with minimum 100GB available space.

Any suggestions to cheap or viable upgrades that will fit within the current laptop?

Depends on your definition of cheap. SSD prices have gone down recently. I'd recommend a NVME-SSD with DRAM cache like the ADATA SX8200 Pro, Samsung 970 EVO, HP EX950, WD Black SN750 etc.

Look for a drive with at least 2000 MB/s read speed. You can by without DRAM cache if you want to save some money. A good 1 TB NVME will be around a 100 USD at the moment. 480, 500 and 512 GB models are around 70 USD with DRAM caching and a bit less without. I'd recommend a 1 TB drive if you have that sort of money, unless you have no other games you play at the moment, in which case a drive half that size is what you want to buy.
