Two user one system or two different systems?

Not only that, but even if there was a compelling reason, one of the people using such a virtualized multiuser-setup should have the skills to deal with any issues related to its use. In enterprise, you have IT-department for that and with power-users you have the power-users themselves, but with OP's buddy Marcus and his dad......that's neither of them.

In short, a single point of failure shared between multiple people is generally a bad idea, if no one can fix it.

Which would be a better option?

Marcus (18) and his dad each needs a system for themselves, so they asked me for some assistance. I watched an episode of LTT the other day about two users and one system, I was thinking of trying that idea. But is it a good option or should I stick with the traditional two separate systems plan?

What kind of usage? How much background knowledge do you have of virtualization, hardware passthrough? How willing are you to maintain the additional complexity of a shared single physical system?

Virtualization generally brings additional issues and can make troubleshooting much harder, worse reliability/stability etc.

Are you willing to hop over every time there's an issue with the host OS? Do you know how to set up virtualization with HW-passthrough? Are this Marcus and his dad willing to deal with the fact that if there's something wrong with the underlying system, neither of them can use their systems?

Marcus does alot of heavy gaming and he's an wedding video/photo editor as for his dad he's a Bisnuess accent auditor he does play some esports games and racing simulators

Marcus can do maintain most of the system since he's pretty well versed in virtualization.

Two separate systems are starting to sound better lol.

that's the case for 99% of the people

i still dont see a compelling reason to use 1 tower for 2 people for regular consumers

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Marcus was saying he could save money on the parts, but after the reasons I don't think the saving is worth it.
