3100 budget option

Since the R3 3300x is available just about nowhere, is it worth it to pay $110-$120 for a R3 3100 instead? I'm putting together 2 low-budget systems for a couple of buddies, and I'd hoped to get them the 3300x, but it's ofc never available. 

 

I don't know too much about how to shop for cheap on the intel side, so if anyone has some tips on that I'd be very grateful!

I'm looking for advice on the part selection, not a compatibility checker, I'm already using that

I would say the 3100 for $115-120 is perfectly fine for a low-budget system. For Intel, the equivalent would be the 10100 in pricing, though the 10100 has better gaming performance even when you overclock the 3100 (cant OC the 10100). Obviously the 3300x for the same price would be better, but as you said, can't find it.

The 3100 is slightly better for production tasks, like Adobe Premiere Pro, so if it's for any productivity, get the 3100. If it's for gaming, get the 10100. If it's for normal overall usage, I would get the 3100, mostly since you can overclock even on the budget boards if they upgrade the CPU later.

I would say if you are gonna pay $120 for R3 3300x then I think just go for Ryzen 5 3600x instead... In summary its not worth that price..

Thanks! I actually have one friend looking for just gaming, and one who's starting animation&modeling classes next semester, so looks like I'll build one of each. Appreciate the breakdown!

...The 3600/3600x are over $200 right now. That's a big difference for a lot of people's budget builds. if the 3600 was still $155, then I would say yes, get that, but it's not

Definitely worth the extra cost to put the 3600 in there if the budget can be stretched, it'll be a big difference for rendering stuff

Thats kinda true the prices are jacked up right now I bought R5 3600x just for $160...

Yeah, I might do that if I can get a decent deal on the power supply, but I'm trying to give them 80+gold and some wattage headroom to upgrade the GPU later, and prices still aren't great for PSUs

I can't say anything mate because it really depends on your preferences and budget I would say definitely check out the R5 3600x/3600 because you will get alot more boost in performance.

Well, that depends. Is it worth the extra $85-95 to save about 5-10 minutes on rendering (depends on the program)? I would ask the friend first before buying the CPU.
