HDD not showing up HELP

JozefDuij

Hello,

Hopefully someone can help me! My 4TB western digital HDD is not showing up at all. I checked Bios and disk Management, and I changed out the Sata cables that it came with.  Drive spins, and sounds normal, but wont show up at all.  what should I do?  Just get a new HDD cause it was only $80 CAD so I don't mind getting a new one, but would like to find out why this one isn't working. Thank you

First of all, I see that you're new around here, welcome!

Secondly, try a different SATA port on the motherboard. If you have a M.2 SSD, it's possible you may have used a SATA port that shares the same lane as that M.2 slot. Or it could just be a bad SATA port.

What motherboard are you using? And do you have any other drives in the system, other than the WD Blue M.2 and the new HDD?

Knowing that makes it a bit easier to troubleshoot things.

If memory serves me right, SATA 5 and 6 get turned off, because you have an M.2 SSD installed.

I would only be able to check this for sure later today.

As a sanity check, uninstall the M.2 SSD and see if the hard drive is detected in the BIOS. Then you know for sure if the SaTA ports work at all.
