Hey guys

If anybody remembered me (no one) i was the kid with the i7-950 CPU that had a 550 watt power supply and 2 GTX 1070.

Right now I have the i5-10600k with 32 Gigabyte of DDR4-3200 MHz with a Maximus XII hero (WIFI) and a 750 Watt corsair power supply.

In Christmas i want to get the RTX 3080 but I'm really worried that my power supply wont have enough wattage.

I heard that 750 Watts of power will be enough but a demanding GPU game like Microsoft Flight Simulator in 4K.Would've the power usage increase?

All I'm asking is that do I need to upgrade a new power supply or should I choose a RTX 3070 instead of the 3080?

I think spending an extra $200 from a $499 RTX 3070 to a $699 RTX 3080 makes a lot more sense because you get from 8 GDDR6 to 10 GDDR6X and moving from 5888 to 8704 Coda cores.

I want to know your opinion about it

If Nvidia's numbers are to be believed, you could run a 3080 and 10600K off of a good 550W PSU. 750W is plenty.

What exact PSU is it that you're using?

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

The Power Supply is a Corsair RM750 power supply with Gold plus

Soo your saying that my power supply will be Enough?

I'm confused about that

Yes, it'll work fine with a 3080. You don't need to upgrade it.

Even overclocking would be fine.

But does that mean your unable to over clock right?

I'm not really into over clocking because i want my stuff to have a better life span

Nvidia says the 3080 will pull 320W. The Founders Edition has two 8-pins, so you won't be going over 375W out of it even if you'd overclock.

If you're running your 10600K at stock, it pulls around 100-110W. You won't getting it to pull over 200W even if you were to get it to 5.0-5.1GHz on all cores, unless you got really unlucky with the silicon lottery.

So basically, even if you were to overclock, 750W would still be more than enough.

Thank you for your opinions on if i needed to upgrade my Power supply

one last question

When over clocking the CPU what do you need to change in the bios, how long will the CPU last compared to the stock CPU, and Do i need to change my radiator

i have the H80i that has a thick radiator for 2x120 fans front and back pushing out air.

The H80i should be fine to a certain extent, just don't expect to break records with it.

Overclocking shouldn't affect the lifespan of your CPU in a noteworthy way unless you go crazy with the voltages. I'd suggest keeping your Vcore under 1.4V, with the VCCIO and VCCSA (System Agent) under 1.35V.

If you want a very thorough overclocking guide for Comet Lake-S, I'd suggest you check out Buildzoid's guide:

Spoiler

If that's a little too long for you and/or you happen to have an ASUS board and not a Gigabyte, der8auer has done a guide a while back here:

Spoiler

^ it's on a 9900K, so Coffee Lake, not Comet Lake, but the process is pretty much the same

I was thinking on getting a 280mm corsair h115i RGB and 3 corsair LL RGB 120mm case fans

I'd suggest you first try and see what you can get with your current hardware, instead of spending money for no reason.
