Howdy everyone,

I am hoping to pick up a 3080 when it comes out and I currently have a Intel i5-4690k CPU. I am wondering what are your guys thought on this? I do plan on upgrading my motherboard/RAM/CPU this december/January once I get some more money.

My screen is 1440p and would be doing 2k gaming.

Sounds decent. I'd say go for something like the AMD 4700x or 4600, which releases late-october. Pair that with a MSI b550 A-pro and some ripjaws 16gb 3600mhz cl16 ram,  (something like that lol) and you should have a decent system on your hands.

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

How bad do you think a bottleneck on games like Cyberpunk 2077 or other triple A games do you think there will be? I'm trying to push to get around 70-80 FPS on those games on 2k graphics

Wait for ampere to actually launch and check how it performs first and how the 4690k holds up with one, but the 4690k being a 4c/4t chip will slow down a 3080 sadly and will run out of threads in a lot  of titles today, though at higher resolutions it shouldn't be too bad. and yea if you're planning on switching to a different platform, wait for zen 3 to come out and check what it has to offer.

I do plan on getting a new CPU/motherboard/RAM come January. I just know that there is going to be a shortage of the 3000's series GPU and was thinking it would be better to buy a 3080 on release, be able to play 2k games actually on 2k as my gtx 970 is quite bad for that and doesn't really do good for a whole lot of things. My main goal kis to get 60-80 fps on triple A games till I can get a new motherboard. I did have a i7-10600k on the list to buy when I had the money but yah I'll for sure wait to see the new CPU's from AMD hoping there won't be a shortage for that.
