My 144 hz has 1440p.

in that case, your next upgrade could be your 2060, to fully utilise that 144hz and still get to keep the eye candy high graphical settings, but it's not something you should rush out and upgrade, it's still good ;)

Hi, everyone.

So, I've made the jump after 25 years as an exclusive console gamer - and I'll be honest, there's a lot to take onboard.

I'm starting off slow, just mainly taking advantage of some free games like Warframe, Fortnite, Destiny 2, The Division etc...

I would like to play Warzone, stuff like Control, Cyberpunk 2077 etc...on pc rather than the safer option of my ps4 pro.

I have a 2060, i5-10400f, 16gb ram, 600 W, and a 144hz monitor and a 4k 60 monitor.

I can get 125 on Destiny 2 with some drops into the high 90s when it is full on effects and loads of enemies.

I understand D2 isn't as taxing as some games, especially those coming on the horizon.

Anyway, hope someone can give me some advice and it's nice to be here...it really is a revelation playing on pc.

Even with what I have it is like I've been short sighted and had dust in my eyes all this time.

Thanks, in advance.

P.S Maury's wigs ARE the best deal in town.

So, do you want some game recommendations?

Any particular preferences on game categories (ie FPS, RTS, etc)?

My tastes are quite eclectic.

I like fps, tps, stuff like AC, Read Dead.

Pretty much the big AAA stuff.

Have a rough list of the games you have played and enjoyed?

Well everything I've played has been on ps4 or 360/ps3 before that and back.

But, I am pretty open.

I was more interested in whether I could run those games, like Warzone, Cyberpunk etc...

I have Warzone on ps4, and it's a monumental download, isn't it?

If you havent done it yet, play Witcher 3, Assasins Creed: Odyssey, Final Fantasy XV, Skyrim, Fallout.

Currently games like Mordhau and Dead by Daylight take up most of my time.

I'm personally not a big fan of Battle Royale games.

Also a big benefit that comes with pc-gaming is modding. You can pretty much change everything you want in games like Fallout and Skyrim. (My current Skyrim install includes 700+ mods :D)

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Warzone is over 120GB i think. Your PC should easily handle almost any game on 1080p Ultra settings and still exceed 60FPS to take advantage of your 144Hz monitor. But i don't think 4K will run in these games at all.

I have Warzone sitting at 185 GB on my ps4 pro.

Actually, I have the full game (MW 2019) so that might be why it's more.

I'm actually content at 120+ fps at 1440 over 4k 60.

not sure if you want hardware advice or game recommendations, but i don't really game so i'll give hardware advice

your rig is looking very nice for 1080p high refresh rate (144Hz display is 1080p yes?)

i wouldn't change anything about it for the next 2-3 years if you wish to remain on 1080p

you could explore 1440p high refresh rate gaming in the future, that's all I can say about it as your rig is perfectly balanced, GPU and CPU wise.

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Are mods safe, would you say?

That depends on the game. Every game is modded in a different way. Sometimes by loading the mods before launching the game, sometimes by overwriting the game's files itself. Of course 90% of multiplayer games are not moddable. You can go to nexusmods.com for a good place to start and to see what games you can mod. The beauty about modding is about making a game more like you would've liked it to begin with compared to what the developer had in mind.

The worst thing that can happen with modding, is that you have to redownload the game, if it's really fucked up. But that has never happened to me. Most of the time if you run into any issues you just have to find the mod that's causing them and uninstall this one again.

Tbh, i could ramble for hours about modding alone. This is by far the biggest benefit pc-gaming has over consoles.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

The RTX 2060 is still a capable card at 1440p. You should not run into problems running latest AAA titles at Ultra settings and at least getting 60 fps.

My 144 hz has 1440p.

I was a bit worried my overall "package" was a little underpowered is all.

Thanks for your advice.

I was just concerned because most mods are made by enthusiasts but there must be the opportunity for nefarious ends?

Idk exactly what you mean with nefarious ends. Do you mean cheats or hacks?

I'm talking about modding singleplayer games, where you can't take advantage compared to other other players. (Like including new items, quests, graphics overhauls, etc.)

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Well, I just meant we don't know who is creating the mods...do we?

Is modding not something that hackers have ever used to try and use to install stuff on your computer?

Sorry, for the noob questions.

Sorry, for that noob questions.

All mods on nexusmods.com are tested for malware and viruses. I've never had any viruses or malware problems due to modding. Most of the time mods are created by normal people like you and me that just want to change something about their favourite game to make it even better and then decide to share this with the community in case anyone else wants to use it.

Of course you shouldn't just use the internet with your head cut off and download stuff from non-trustworthy sites. But nexusmods is definetly the best source for mods for many games.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I'll have to check out nexus mods.

How does it work?

Say I wanted to install a mod for GTA5, how do you actually install it so it appears in game?

Is it done at the modding site, or once you load into GTA via an in game option, or is before you launch the game?

Like i said this is vastly different from game to game. It mostly depends on the used game engine.

I think in GTA you have to insert some folders into your game files. I've added a few vehicles to GTA aswell but that was years ago. I don't really remember exactly how it works with this particular game.

There's plenty of tutorials and guides for modding available for each moddable game.

Just remember that a lot of online games like GTA can actually get you banned for using mods the same way as with cheats or hacks. When using mods in GTA only play offline or on custom non-rockstar servers.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I didn't think about the getting banned part.
