Help understanding CPU affinity in task manager

Hi all. I would like to allow OBS to use only 4 cores (and their corresponding threads) for streaming and not allow it to use all of them, so that I can have the game run on the other 8. But when I enter the menu, I am greeted with a listing of 0-23, which I would assume are 12 physical cores + 12 threads. So which ones are actual cores and which are threads? I'm on Ryzen. Thanks.

Your are not seeing 'real cores' you are only seeing threads.

Your CPU is using SMT, simultaneous multi-threading. That means every core in your system is acting like two threads. It doesn't mean it's acting like a core and a thread. It's just a core that your computer sees as two threads.

 

What you might be after is where one CCX begins and another ends.
