I need some help choosing a new router. I have a gigabit connection and I currently have a 3-4 yr old orbi. I want to get the google nest wifi, but I also want to get wifi 6. I am going back and forth between the nest and the 2 wifi 6 orbis, but they're just so expensive. I have an old house with plaster walls. What should I do?

I'd just get a good router capable of Gigabit and run ethernet cables as in older houses u r never gonna get a brilliant signal without boosters and such which is more and more expense.

The router i have linked u to will do everything u need but its expensive.  Unfortunately u have to pay for the features u want at the moment through the nose.

Before you start ripping holes in your walls for hardline.

What do you primarily do with your current wifi;

Streaming to 1 device at a time or have multiple devices attached at once all doing different things?

Large file transfers to a NAS or using a network drive for the occasional backup or not at all but might want to start using a central file storage?

Mostly gaming and streaming YouTube on your computer?

Do you currently have devices hardlined and will need to have ports for those as well as wifi for the rest?

What kind of budget are you hoping to stay within?

First things first. Figure out if the hardware you're looking at can do NAT at 1 Gbps. Just because routers have Gigabit WAN doesn't mean they can do Gigabit internet. Smallnetbuilder.com is good source for the info on router specs that are usually not listed on the manufactures websites. You need to look at WAN to LAN and LAN to WAN throughput.

what are the recommendations for a good and reliable router? I need something secure

You're better off starting you're own thread. Make sure you include what equipment your ISP has provided you, your internet type and speed.
