microphone

Go to solution Solved by The Flying Sloth,

Completely disregarding what everyone else says, Rode Podmic and 3U Audio CM1 are the two best options in your price range. If you've got background noise the Podmic (dynamic) will ignore most of that and has the traditional 'youtuber/streamer' tone while the CM1 is a damn good semi-pro level studio vocal mic.

i bought a scarlett solo gen 3 audio interface for mic input.

ill be buying a rode psa1 boom arm havnt decided on mic (any suggestions would be great use is for gaming mic to be used with discord i dont live stream and i wont be using a headset)

speakers im running 2x mackie thump 12a with a mackie mix5 mixer and ill be adding a yorkville yx18sp sub woofer

so question is im looking for a microphone between $100 to $200 canadian that is xlr and is compatible with the rode psa1 boom arm

It's absolutely ridiculous that you want a $100-200 mic to pair with a $300 interface and a $400 boom arm.

Invest in a better mic and a good enough stand and interface.

The mic is 95% of the sound quality in terms of hardware. I don't know why anyone would only spend only ~15% of their audio budget on the mic, especially if that's the only one they're using.

actually interface was 169, boom arm is 139. so a mic thats 200$ would be about 40% of the budget which is actually not bad.

i choose the other 2 parts because i wanted something reliable and thats what i knew.

You will need a shock mount to use the PSA1 with nearly any microphone. I would recommend the Audio-Technica AT2020 paired with any cheap shock mount and pop filter combos for the AT2020/AT2035. The AT2035 is also a solid choice, which performs marginally better when it comes to voice recordings.

I use the BTOOP shock mount with a AT2035, though most shock mount offerings are from the same Chinese manufacturer.

This is for one mic, that you're gonna use for gaming and streaming? I would just put your $ towards a nice USB condenser. Interfaces are more for multiple inputs, connecting instruments, providing requisite phantom power - especially when multiple condensers are involved.

MXL 990, Audio Technica AT2020, Shure PGA181, I've used all these condensers in vocal booths and they're all in your price range.

A Rode NT1A or NT-USB is going to sound a lot better though.

first of all i dont stream or record etc. its for gaming, chatting with other players and friends. maybe some over the web audio calls that we didnt wanna use a cell phone for.

the scarlett solo only has one mic/line in and one headphone jack its intended for this purpose. i may buy a headphone later on but it will be a 1/4 inch headphone so a high quality headphones.

what do you think of the shure 55SH SERIES II i like the look haha i know you should never buy for looks over performance but gotta have some fun. also will it be compatible with the boom arm. i choose that boom arm because i can use it via the grommet instead of the c clamp style so another quality boom arm that is grommet compatible would be great if needed

Nearly any microphone or compatible shock mount that has a 3/8th (with included adapter) or 5/8th thread will be compatible with the PSA1.

The Shure 55SH Series II may look pretty strange attached to the PSA1. If you're simply looking at audio quality, you're best off determine this for yourself. Try looking up sound tests on YouTube.

I own the VIVO STAND-MIC01, which offers a grommet mount. I am unsure about size requirements for this mount, as I do not own a desk with a grommet.

thank you for that. i have decided on the shure 55 series ii i know its abit over priced but i found out i cant use a grommet boom arm my desk is 1 3/4 inch thick and from what i can see boom arms max out for 1.5 inches. and i cant use a c clamp method. so im gonna buy a cheap/quality yorkville desk stand save on the stand and spend abit more on the mic

This is due to the grommet bolt included with the mount.  If a longer M10 bolt is used in place of the included part, it's technically possible to fit just about any desk thickness.
