so curently im on fios with 50/25. i switched from optimum online(cablevision) these are my fios speeds on wifi

3322738881.png  and optimum rep came to my house and i wasnt hope and she was asking my uncle who doesnt know anything about tech or networking to switch back to optimum with their new ultra 50 plan. im fine with getting the same speeds from another company for $30 cheaper. i just want to know,..... is optimum ultra 50 a fiber connection. because if it isnt its not worth that $30

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

Why do you think it matters if its on a fibre optic cable as long as youre getting the capacity you want?

Can you explain your thought process please?

You have no idea how jealous I am OP... I wish I had speeds like that in my area... speed could determine if I make $200 or $2000 with my job.

before i switched to verizon. i didnt have fibre. my old speeds were 25/15. i got on average through ehternet. 13/5. with that and the news that broke out months ago about comcast buying time warner(which is optimum in my area) and the fact that comcast did. made me want to switch to verizon fios. they gave me fibre. with advertised speeds of 50/25. BUT on ehternet i get 66/50. basically double my upload. now that my uncle made the deal without my expertise i dont know if they are going to have fiber for optimum. which means i wont get my advertised speeds. once you go to fiber its an entirely new experience. like you just upgraded to a SSD.

Capacity has no bearing on latency. And if it is so important why not get an MPLS connection or leased line?

Getting lower speeds than you pay for can be a product of over utilisation in your cable area. The media its carried on doesnt really make much of a difference, as long as the signal is good and there is no interference. I dont know the kind of infrustructure US ISPs use, so I cant comment on that.

True but the amount of bandwidth I take up for all my tickers and technical analysis forward feedback alone not including the 24/7 streams I have on the browsers really slows down my overall connection.

Windstream's customer service is horrid in my area, they gave me the answer "your area's connections don't allow you to install a lease line, sorry for the inconvenience"  after she made me stay on hold for at least a hour and a half... (doing god knows what...)

Residential lines here have outgoing connection packet loss for whatever reason around 6 - 7pm night time... When asked they just say they're aware of the issue and are doing repairs, yet its been going on for 6 months now... whenever it creeps into the morning hours I actually leave the house go to a cafe to work... thankfully its only happened twice in the morning...

US mostly used copper. and it bastically sends 1 BIG cable to an area and sends smaller cables to individual houses and apartments so unless you have fibre which doesnt interfere, you get latency and lower speeds and stuffs
