Hmm. I notice you mentioned RAID mode, I think you should leave that at AHCI, but iirc the drive won't even show up if that's a problem, so that's probably fine.

Try a different SATA cable and maybe try 1 RAM stick at a time and/or run Memtest86 to verify the RAM is ok. It certainly looks to me like a hardware problem, but it might be something with Mint itself as well. Have you tried one version up or down?

Hey, so i've been building new pc (my first time). After following tutorials and guides, i've been able to assemble them. The spec are:

- Asrock B550M Pro4

- AMD Ryzen 5 3600

- T-FORCE Delta RGB 8 GB x 2 DDR4 RAM

- Gigabyte RX 580 8 GB

- WD Blue 1 TB 3.5" HDD

- Seagate Barracuda 500 GB 2.5" HDD

- Seasonic GX-550 PSU

Problem is, when i'm trying to install OS, i can't.

- With windows, driver not found

- With Linux Mint, Errno 5 : Input/Output error

I can boot to Linux Mint via USB, but when trying to install, got error.

What i've tried :

- Disable CSM, Secure Boot

- Switch to RAID, tired installing SATA Floppy Image ver:9.3.0.158 from Asrock website

- Checking Linux Mint ISO hash as the web instructed. It's valid

- Switching 3 different USB Drive, and many different USB ports

- Updating Motherboard BIOS to the newest version

Unfortunately, none works. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks.

Have you verified that a) the installation medium is fine b) the HDD is ok (Linux ISOs provide an md5 hash to verify against for example)?

Errno 5 : Input/Output error

Seeing this error in Linux usually indicates a bad disk, so the HDD you are installing to might be faulty.

Well, at first i suspect the same thing. Hence i order a new HDD (The WD one), same error.

Also, i've checked the HDD with e2fsck. As i recall it said 0/0/0 bad sector/error(?)

Ok, well in the Linux Mint case I would verify your download as a first step: https://linuxmint.com/verify.php This will make sure you have a working copy. I don't know if Windows provides a way to verify the installation medium.

Did you plug in your drives correctly? 1 Cable has to go to the PSU and 1 has to go to the mobo.

Also some boards disable SATA ports if you install any M.2 or NVME drive.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Yeah, the cables are correct

There's no M.2 or NVME installed at all

Whoa thanks dude. I still haven't tried to install windows yet but the Linux Mint have been installed succesfully

I removed 1 of the RAM stick. Also, i kinda notice the RAM slot make a buzzing sound when the PC turned on, is this normal? The buzz was noticable for a short time after pushing the power button, then the sound still there but barely noticable.

The motherboard and the RAM is still under warranty, although idk about the motherboard, since i've updated the bios. Does it void warranty?

Any advice to what steps should i do next? Again thanks dude

Sounds like a bad RAM stick or bad RAM slot then. You may be able to figure that out from various combinations of stick and slot after which you can try to RMA the board and/or sticks (depending on what is faulty). I don't think RAM can make a buzzing noise and it shouldn't. It might be coil whine from some motherboard components. I guess you could check if it's the RAM slot by testing both sticks in it.

Welp, confirmed one of the RAM stick is broken. Gonna RMA.

About the buzz, seems it's not from the RAM, but it's a topic for another thread i guess. Thanks.
