What new PC- AMD or Intel?

waky53

Budget (including currency): $2000 AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Breakpoint & other fps games, ZOOM lessons, general email/spreadsheet

Other details Current Intel i7 4970k, Coolermaster cpu cooler, GTX1660 super, 32g ram, 650w PSU, 24in 60hz monitor, only need 1080p,

Current PC keeps crashing and cant identify problem have reloaded windows 64 Home

AMD is cheaper and seems more future proof, Intel more expensive and seem to change Motherboard and CPU setup every new chip, but a little better in games maybe

Have been looking at X570, Ryzen7 3700x, re-use the 1660 super and the CPU cooler as it can do AMD as well, 32g DDR4 ram, probably need a new case as this one is quite old now

Intel I7-10700 is the similar price range but a bit more money

Don't need/want RGB. have a new keyboard, can put up with current monitor. Not into mad overclocking or water cooling.

SO AMD or Intel, Any suggestions please?

In my opinion, upgrading to a 3700X nor an i7-10700 wouldn't net you huge performance, IMO you'd need to upgrade the GPU as well.

Main Rig :

Ryzen 7 2700X | Powercolor Red Devil RX 580 8 GB | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 | 16 GB TeamGroup Elite 2400MHz | Samsung 750 EVO 240 GB | HGST 7200 RPM 1 TB | Seasonic M12II EVO | CoolerMaster Q300L | Dell U2518D | Dell P2217H |

Laptop :

Thinkpad X230 | i5 3320M | 8 GB DDR3 | V-Gen 128 GB SSD |

3600, on a B550 board and sell your 1660. That should hopefully combine to $300, and once the 3070 hits in october, the current stock of 2070s will hopefully be in that price range, especially if we luck into any black friday deals on NOS cards to clear them out, so Nvidia can drop a 3060 early next  year.

IMHO
