550watt enough for next gen nvidia?

Flawizz

as the title says, im planning on buying a 3080 to replace my 2080, i was impressed when they almost quadrupled the cuda core count (i assume it means alot of extra raw power), my question is, if i could use a 3080 which uses 320watt, with a rm550x corsair psu which i had no problems with on a 2080.

What are the other specs of your system? I would definitely recommend at VERY least a 650w PSU but would say a 750W would be much better. The 2080 had a 225W TDP while the 3080 is supposed to have a 320W TDP. I personally use a RM550x too but I am planning on getting a 650x for the 3070.

with a rm550x

Wait until ampere actually comes out and then check power consumption for these cards.

Power recommendation by nvidia or AMD etc always over estimates. So wait and check.

Yeah with those specs I would lean towards NVIDIA's recommendation of a 750W unit. I would leave some more room to grow too. I would say from experience to get another corsair RMx just a 750w one. I would also recommend waiting until they actually release to see what it actually is.

its likely gonna be sufficient for your current config. tho day 1 reveals would be neccesary to be 100% certain
