Hi everyone,

So later on this month I'll be finishing up my PC build, but had a question about the I/O on the motherboard. The motherboard I have is an Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming(Wi-Fi) and the I/O on the back of it has

2xUSB 3.2Gen 2 ports, 4xUSB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, 2x USB 2.0 ports, 1 displayport, 1 hdmi port and so on. What I'm wondering is do these ports work on there own? meaning I can just plug a peripheral that uses the port and it will work or will I have to install something to enable those ports. Sorry if I'm not clear on question, new to building computers. Thanks for help.

Everything but the video out will work fine, probably. Some may require drivers, but physically they will work without touching them

The video ports won't work unless you have an APU

Assuming you're running a cpu with an i-gpu (every AMD chip that ends with a G) then yea you can use the display outputs, though B550 at least for now, does not support current gen apu's (zen + apu's), though can support zen 2 apu's with a bios update though those are still limited to OEM builds for now.

ok thank you. I just have to buy the cpu and video card and I'll be done with computer. Do you recommend any 8GB graphics cards I should buy with good thermals and low noise?

I'm running an 850W power supply from Corsair. I would like to stay $500 or less on the graphics card.
