Video Rendering Only using 4 Gigs?

So I hear all the time that video rendering can use all of your available RAM so I finally decided to check my RAM usage while rendering one of my videos and it was only at 50%. Rather odd I think. It's a 1080p 30fps video.

Would alloting more RAM allow shorter render times? It's usually around an hour and isn't really that big of a deal gives me time to finish Fable anniversary and SBSP Truth or Square.

I'd like to elaborate.

 

It all depends on the video,if you you do is trim 3 or 4 video parts down and add a title,maybe a couple effects it won't be slow.

 

it starts to be slow and use tons of ram when you have either 

A.highly compressed video

B.many video sources throughout the timeline

C.tons of effects

 

But if you just use it to quickly composite a video,say trim it down and add a title and credits then it'll use very little ram,though I've gotten it to use all 8GB ram with some of my larger projects.

If your software itself is only 32bit version it won't utilize whole system capasity.
