have him save bios settings then reset to optimized defaults and see if that helps, if not he can reload his profile, if it does, problem found-ish

I ran into this issue when I temporarily installed a Xeon in a desktop motherboard. Abnormally long bout times even after removing the Xeon for an i7.

 

Reset CMOS. See if it helps.
