Hi!
So my dad has a old pc i am getting that i can rework into a server, however, he would like to keep his hdd as there are alot of files on that. that is no problem as i still have a hdd laying around, but what does it do to the license? does it just start to show up as not registered? (remember, i am only taking the old hard drive into the new pc i am building for him), or what does it do exactly?

theoretically Windows will deactivate and you will need a new license if the old license was an OEM license.

if you have a full retail copy of Windows you can transfer the license over to the new system.

If you're running Windows 10, you can try and try to connect it to your account. Look at (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12440/windows-10-activate)

Thank you very much!
