I have an older computer with a Gigabyte H81m-DS2 rev 3.0, G3260 and 2 x 2 gb ddr3 1333.

I got a new 8 gb ddr3 1600 from a Chinese pre-built that I tried to use on that older computer. The 8gb

ram works fine on that pre-built.

When I installed the 8gb ram stick on the older computer, it just bootloops with no access to the BIOS.

I resetted the CMOS by the usual unplug power, remove battery, hold power for a few seconds, wait a

few minutes, putting the battery back in, and plugging everything back in. It still gives me the bootloop.

I figured I needed to upgrade the BIOS, so I did that. But it's still giving me the same problem. Now when

I tried to put in the old ram, it also gives me a bootloop but with access to the BIOS. I downgraded the BIOS

to previous version, load profile from a previous known good boot record and it worked fine.

Is the Chinese (no name brand) 8gb stick just not compatible with the Gigabyte board or is there something

I can change in the BIOS to make it work?

Maybe it's just memory training?

Have you tried letting it bootloop for 5 mins and seeing if it gets anywhere?

I actually did, and forgot to mention it. I let it train the memory for a few minutes (it bootlooped about 15 times) and it won't work at all.

I figured that should be long enough, as I read somewhere it needed to only bootloop for 5 times for the memory training. Do you think I should try letting it run for longer?

Now, interesting thing that happened when I let it memory train. I took out the 8gb stick and put in the old ram and it also bootlooped, but with access to BIOS. It didn't work until I loaded a profile from a last known good boot record.

Nah that's probably enough

Quite strange. Maybe check if the older known-good configuration has higher voltages anywhere? Other than that I'm stumped.

Voltages are all set to auto (mainly because I'm not comfortable enough to change any of that) in all the of the configurations I tested where I had access to the BIOS.

Thanks for trying to help, I really appreciate it.
