Without giving any context at all, this is hard to judge.

But it's usually more worthwhile - in terms of actual performance - to spend more on your CPU than your motherboard.

Of course it will differ per situation, but a 200-300 USD board with a 700 USD CPU could make more sense. Or maybe you shouldn't spend that much on either and spend more on your videocard. Depends on the system.
