Hey,

so a friend of mine has this problem that he gets disconnects from discord, games and even websites and it happens very irregular(sometimes a few times in 5 mins sometimes not in a whole day).

I have been on this for quiet a bit now, I tried a complete fresh install of windows, the same happens in my house( with completely different cables) and i put in a network card to eliminate the possibility that the onboard one is broken. Nothing changed, what else could it be? The only thing that comes in my mind is the mainboard, but didnt i eliminate that possible fault by putting in a network card?

Thanks for helping

Is it running DHCP, or static address?  my initial thought would be that there's a conflict somewhere. Try setting a static address outside of the DHCP range.

It is strange that it's happened at 2 houses though, unless you both have similar network subnets.

This is another one of those things that I say "I would love to have this in front of me to figure this out!" situations... I'm not saying I could do it for sure, as it could very well be a hardware issue somehow. But I love figuring this stuff out... well, love AND hate, love it if it's someone else's, hate it if it's mine 🤣

Actually I guess that last part isn't fully true, and hasn't been for many years now, as although I do still hate having problems with my own machines, I have other hardware and PCs in general that it's not a time-constraint problem if I DO get issues.. cos I can just use one of the servers/PCs/laptops, hell even phones and tablets etc to do whatever.. so it makes it not quite so infuriating when a problem arises.

Just for a sanity check, take the PC to a different friends house if possible, see if it still acts up... also try disabling the network adaptor and making a new connection. Hell uninstall the network drivers too, assuming windows will install defaults. Just make sure you have a USB or HDD with drivers on it just in case.

Any vpn software?  Seems to me this is an os/software issue.  New NIC pretty much eliminates bad hardware (unless u have bad switch which burning up nics...doubtful).

VPN software can induce all sorts of joy.

Even with a fresh install and literally just discord on the pc it does it.
