Issues with Mouse Scroll Wheel

I am having an issue where when I scroll down with my mouse wheel sometimes it will start moving up before down or sometimes during scrolling it will randomly scroll up before continuing going down. This also happens when I scroll up. My mouse wheel moves normally and doesn't get stuck when I move it.

 

Would this be a mechanical issue and is there a fix for it?

You should be able to buy a replacement scroll wheel, an RMA is your best option.

If its mechanical it might just be some crud in the scroll-wheel blocking the light-sensor from functioning properly.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

My mouse is a Logitech G403

I had that issue with my old Mionix Castor. Took it apart ti see if I could fix it, saw nothing wrong but cleaned it anyway and issue was still there so I bought a new mouse.
