Concerning Temps

Go to solution Solved by Oshino Shinobu,

Those temps are fine really. I'd expect it to be a difference in fan curve or idle settings on the PSU. You'd need to be comparing fan RPMs and noise levels to really get a meaningful comparison.

The main thing you want to look at is load temps, and yours are absolutely fine. If you really wanted to bring down idle temps, you could adjust the fan curves but the system would get louder at idle.

For reference, my system idles at 40-50C on the CPU and 50C on the GPU, but that's with the CPU fan at 600RPM and the GPU fans off, as well as the PSU fan off, so the system is as close to silent as it can be. Under load neither goes far over 65C

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the place to be asking this, but I had a quick question about my computer. I built a PC a few days ago and apart from the power supply, my friend and I have the exact same specs. We're using Cooler Master NR600 cases with the stock intake and exhaust, Cooler Master hyper 212 black edition CPU coolers, Nvidia RTX 2070 Super black GPUs, and i7 10700 CPUs. Currently, I'm idling at around 55c on the GPU, and the CPU idles at anywhere from 35 to 40c. We have about a 10 degree difference in both the CPU and GPU, which had me a little concerned.

Playing games on 1440p like Battlefront 2, I've had the GPU go up to 77c and the CPU at about 65c. I've looked around but couldn't quite find a consensus on if this was normal since it seems like the only difference we have is he has two intake fans instead of just one which he took out of his old case. I'm skeptical that the PSU may be having issues due to some liquid that was spilled into it while I used it into my other build. Other than that, I'm at a loss but I want to make sure I'm not overreacting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A GPU temp of 77C in a AAA game at 1440p is on the high side, but it's certainly nothing to be worried about. As for your CPU, 65C is a great temperature under an intensive load. As far as I can tell, you have nothing to worry about cooling-wise.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

That’s relieving to know the temps are all okay. I was mostly curious because the only difference between our two computers at the moment is he has his PC in a larger room and there’s an additional DC intake fan in his case. I wasn’t sure if those two factors alone and maybe ambient temperature were enough to cause a noticeable difference in GPU/CPU temperatures.

An ambient temperature difference and an extra intake fan can account for his cooler temps, you have nothing to worry about.
