Computer hardware at least in regards to static discharge is fairly robust. Never go out of your way to try to shock it but it takes more than you think to harm a piece of hardware especially in a humid climate where static dissipates as fast as it builds up.

 

I would be more cautious in winter seasons when the air is dry. If you can feel yourself getting shocked on things you definitely want to ground yourself and not shimmy around too much while handing the equipment.
