I took my new motherboard out of bag and installed cpu and then I realized that I was on a carpet surface and not grounded. Do you think it could be damaged?

Could be, but I doubt it. I've built systems on carpet before- they've all turned out fine

Maybe, but if it's summer where you are and static elec is low, then probably not

Computer hardware at least in regards to static discharge is fairly robust. Never go out of your way to try to shock it but it takes more than you think to harm a piece of hardware especially in a humid climate where static dissipates as fast as it builds up.

 

I would be more cautious in winter seasons when the air is dry. If you can feel yourself getting shocked on things you definitely want to ground yourself and not shimmy around too much while handing the equipment.
