Budget (including currency): 50-80K INR

Country: India

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: OneNote, Windows Apps that support Inking with a pen, Long video playback and Video Conferencing (Seriously, right now my day begins at 8:30 am with classes and ends at 10:00 or 10:30 PM), Light Gaming, Visual Studio, Coding etc.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

  1. What are you upgrading from ?  : A dell Inspiron 13-5368. Its 4-5 years old now. Only has a mere, pitiable 4 GB of LPDDR4 @ 2133MHz and an even more laughable overheating i3-6100u. Originally when I didn't even knew of LTT or windows devices, I had bought this machine, mainly for its functionality as a 2 in 1 and windows ink. But now, I can't even open multiple tabs ! Little did I know, the PC has a problem with its touch screen. Everyday at least 75% of the time when I use the touchscreen, it suffers from ghost touch issues. Literally, when I use the ruler in OneNote, Lines start getting randomly drawn, Pens start switching. Its,......Its ALIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. What you are going to buy ?: I am on the lookout for a Windows device. (Yes windows is a necessity as I am going to college next year and I will have to take a Windows PC with me) The device must have good inking functionality with support for a pen or stylus, (I am really tired of writing with my fat fingers, Its so slooooooooooooow!). Maybe a 2 in 1 or a detachable like the surface. It should have great battery life for years to come.(PS : My current Inspiron can't run without its charger plugged into an outlet !)
  3. Gaming : Maybe some ? I am not really into games. Because as far as I know you can't get a device that has good inking support and can play games as well as is portable.

So I just wanted advice on whether I should by a PC now ? Because my current PC takes almost forever to boot. On a good day I get at least 10-15 BSODs. Many a times it also just freezes and shuts itself down. Its Idle CPU temps are around 60-65 degree Celsius.  Due to this random behavior of my PC, I have missed some very important classes and tests. And I plan on keeping this device not as my primary computer but as a secondary one for some time even after I get the new one, as it has some proprietary learning software that I had bought which can't be re-installed on another device. I always think I should get a new PC but am never able to make up my mind as next year, I have to go to college and then I will have to get a PC, so if I get a PC now is it a good idea given my circumstances ?

M8 the Ones In my country come with the 8th gen Intel Processors and the 10th gen Ones haven't arrived yet. And are you suggesting getting a PC now or in the future and sticking with the Inspiron for now ?

I would say it is reasonable to get a device now considering the importance of reliability for a student, although only you can answer the question of whether it is worth it for you.. Considering that your main priority is pen support I would be looking at a surface, as for which one it depends on pricing in your country.

@Lemtea When I lookup for surface devices they are available in my country but when I check If there is servicing and support for Surface Devices in my country I can't get an exact answer. Like on amazon and on reddit, some reviews claimed that when they called MSFT for support for their surface device MSFT asked them to ship it to the US, which sounds dubious to me

@Lemtea I sometimes get the idea to go for the surface pro x, but then its windows on ARM which means it may not be able to run all the apps, I might need it to

I would not recommend the pro x unless you are certain you only need basic apps and will be doing light tasks.

Unfortunately you probably won't be able to easily get manufacturer direct support but you should be able to get support through the retailer you purchase the device from.
