Netgear Nighthawk M1

I live in a rural area and the only options I have for internet are satellite. However I found the Netgear Nighthawk M1 Mobile Hotspot 4G LTE Router. I was wonder if anyone has ever heard of this before and wanted to share their experience with it. Im looking at a unlocked version of the device and am probably going to use it with cricket wireless daughter company to AT&T.

Using a hotspot for home internet is a bad idea. LTE is not going to be able to handle that kind of load. 

How many devices do you plan on using this with? 

Don't expect more than 30Mbps signal in rural areas and 70Mbps in cities ( 30 is enough to handle 2 maybe 3 devices, 70 is enough to handle most home internet)

 

also, your ping and overall connection reliability will be atrocious with LTE because phone signals are designed for roaming capabilities, not throughput and stability. 

 

 

Edit: make sure the cricket plan supports hotspot usage as many will block that kind of traffic.

 

Edit 2: make sure you select a plan that does not have speed limits because I know cricket is going to have limits. also data caps

I've compared the speeds of my satellite internet to the speeds from my phone tethered to my pc. (LTE is the faster one). The Down and Up speeds arent my concern they will be slow where I live regardless, the difference in ping is whats making me wonder if i should switch I know it really helps my experience gaming as almost all online games a pretty much unplayable at 600 ping. The only other thing im concerned about is streaming.

It should do better than Satellite, especially in rural areas where there is no wired broadband.

I guess I forgot that part. DSL is not an option. For LTE vs Satellite, LTE wins hands down. Hopefully starlink might help you get a better connection so I would also consider that if it will be available in your area.
