I'm planning a new build, hopefully in time for Cyberpunk 2077. Looking to utilise one of the new Nvidia cards expected soon & maybe even a Zen 3 CPU.

I haven't confirmed my budget yet, but I'm thinking of spending a little extra to make it a real showpiece. I really like the look of the Lian Li O11 Dynamic case for a vertical mount GPU.

Here's where things get interesting... what if I put a frickin' plasma ball in there?

I'm not the first person ever to have this idea, but info is a little spotty. I'm thinking one of those little 3" USB powered plasma balls should be relatively easy to install & it could just power on & off with the PC. Apparently glass is a pretty good insulator, so it shouldn't short any valuable components... I think.

They're only 6 watt 12V, but I'm not sure how much heat they would put out.

Thoughts, opinions? Does anyone have experience with these?

Those things spit out EMI like nobody's business. Expect your front panel audio to be all but a useless hissing mess at low volumes, and if any circuits and possibly wires touch the plasma ball they will be fried. It'll probably work, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if some issues came up because of it.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know these things like to concentrate their arcs near ground connection (the case is all grounded). They could all converge to one spot and ruin the effect or it's possible I don't know what I'm talking about

Try and see if any problems come up. If they do you could try to put it on top of the case or something like that
