PCPP Compatability Note

I get the message:

 

The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports are disabled.

 

I assume this just means that I cant have a SATA SSD while using my M.2 SSD which is fine with me, just making sure.

It depends on the motherboard, but usually there are other SATA ports that you can use, just not all of them.

That means that if you have an m.2 drive in the system, a few of the sata ports will be disabled. But a few will still work so you can use a sata drive. The exact specifics of which ports are available and which m.2s do what depends on the motherboard. Look at the motherboard manual for that information (or post motherboard model here and I’ll see what I can find).

Oh I see. Yes, the motherboard has 6 of them. How do I know which ones are disabled and which ones are not?

Go to the motherboard's website and check there or in the manual.

You have 6 SATA ports, 1 or 2 of which will be disabled.

Check the manual which SATA ports those will be.

 

Which motherboard will you be using?

Then sata ports 5 and 6 will be disabled when there is a drive in the m.2 slot.

I just saw you post the motherboard you'll be using and edited in a screenshot showing what SATA ports will stay active.

You're looking for page 32 in the manual.
